Volunteer Descriptions
IN THE FIELD
Field Surveyors
Field Surveyors will assist in canvasing assigned geographical areas and surveying people experiencing unsheltered homelessness during the 2024 Point In Time Count. These volunteers will be placed within a team consisting of a Team Captain and up to three additional Field Surveyors. Field Surveyors are required to complete virtual training or attend an in-person training. All Field Surveyors are required to be 18 years of age or older.
Date: January 23-25, 2024
Time: 4:30 - 9:00 a.m. or 6:30 - 11:00 p.m.

Field Surveyor Team Captains
Team Captains are responsible for building and/or leading a team of three to four Field Surveyors for the 2024 Point In Time Count. The Team Captains are responsible for navigating maps, knowing emergency protocols, understanding the Survey123 mobile application, and knowing how to complete the Veterans Registry, Transitional Age Youth (TAY), and unsheltered surveys. It is recommended that the Team Captain not be the driver. Team Captains are required to complete virtual training or attend an in-person training. All Team Captains are required to be 18 years of age or older.

AT THE DEPLOYMENT CENTERS
Clean-Up Volunteer
Deployment Center Cleanup Volunteers will assist with cleaning up the deployment center in increments of two-hour shifts, either from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. for the morning events or 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. for the evening events. Deployment Center Cleanup Volunteers will assist with welcoming back Field Surveyors from their field assignments, providing vehicle traffic control, collecting mapping and incentive supplies from Field Surveyors, and cleaning up after the event. You are welcome to register to volunteer more than once. Deployment Center volunteers are required to complete an application and self-guided virtual or live training. All Deployment Center Cleanup Volunteers are required to be 18 years of age or older.

Set-Up Volunteer
Deployment Center Setup Volunteers will assist with setting up the deployment center in increments of two-hour shifts, either from 3:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. for the morning events or 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for the evening events. Deployment Center Setup Volunteers will assist with greeting Field Surveyors and approved guests (e.g., elected officials and members of the press) when they arrive. These volunteers will provide vehicle traffic control, distribute t-shirts and mapping supplies to Field Surveyors, and help deploy Field Surveyors into the field. You are welcome to register to volunteer more than once. Deployment Center volunteers are required to complete an application and self-guided virtual or live training. All Deployment Center Cleanup Volunteers are required to be 18 years of age or older.

2024 Point In Time Count Volunteer Information
Thank you for your interest in supporting the 2024 Everyone Counts OC Point In Time Count event! More than 1,000 volunteers are needed to serve at Deployment Centers and in the field to support the 2024 Point In Time Count. Early morning and late evening shifts are available for each day of the count and Service Planning Area.
